Healing Plant Roots – Boost Your Immune System

I have been advocating the use of natural remedies to promote health care. The fact is that every one of us at one time or another comes down with an ailment of some sort, be it severe or trivial. While there are numerous drugs that could improve a specific health condition, it might be safer to choose natural means of treatment.

It is established that the human body is capable of healing itself. This self-healing ability of the body is accomplished by making healthy lifestyle choices, which include receiving the care you need by eating a healthy, nutrient-rich diet.

As part of your healthy diet, I recommend using natural health products which include some herbs that have proven success in curing various medical conditions.

To help you get started, here is a short my selection of three commonly used plant roots found in herbal medicine that might help boost your immune system Ginger, Turmeric and Ginseng. This is, however, only a brief glance at some of the many effective herbal cures. Please note that some of the claimed benefits do note have proven research evidence to back up their effectiveness, but many people have seen their conditions improved with the usage of these herbs over the years.


Ginger


I can say without a second thought that Ginger is one of the most widely used condiments in the world today. Beyond adding a distinct flavor to your food, it has some health benefits. The therapeutic benefits of ginger come from gingerols, a substance that acts as a highly potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent.

Raw ginger is composed of water, carbohydrates, protein, and fat. It contains moderate amounts of vitamin B6 and minerals such as magnesium, manganese, and potassium.

Alleged health benefits:
Besides his anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties, Ginger can help boost the immune system and respiratory function. It appears to be effective at fighting bacterial and fungal infections, treating stomach ulcers, and reducing pain. Ginger can also help reduce or prevent various types of nausea and digestive problems. Some studies show ginger to be effective at reducing symptoms of osteoarthritis (a form of arthritis), which is a very common health problem. Ginger consumption may lead to significant reductions in LDL (bad) cholesterol, and it has been shown to lower blood sugar levels and improve various heart disease risk factors in patients with diabetes.

Possible adverse effects:
Although generally recognized as safe, ginger can cause heartburn and other side effects including abdominal discomfort and diarrhea if used in large amount.
It may also interfere with the effects of anticoagulants, so if you are using medications that slow blood clotting, make sure to check with your doctor. Allergic reactions to ginger generally result in a rash.

There are several ways in which people consume ginger today. It is used in juices, smoothies, and teas. During cold weather, drinking ginger tea helps relieve cold and flu. It is a good way to keep warm because it promotes sweating, working to warm the body from within. Ginger can also be eaten raw, taken in powder or supplement form. Considering what I have stated above, we can agree that they are some awesome key points about Ginger either for culinary or medical purposes. You might want to try it in your dressings to raise the taste of your salad.


Turmeric


Turmeric is a plant closely related to ginger and has a very long history of medicinal use. There are many publications dealing with the various benefits of turmeric. No wonder why some have surnamed it the “golden spice”.

It is an excellent source of manganese and iron and contains a good quantity of vitamin B6, copper and fiber. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric, and it has powerful biological properties.

Alleged health benefits:
Turmeric has been used in traditional medicine to treat inflammatory conditions, skin diseases, wounds, digestive ailments, and liver conditions. Several studies also indicate that turmeric has potent antioxidant properties. The plant is recommended for a variety of health conditions, including its ability to slow and prevent blood clotting, manage diabetes, treat gastrointestinal issues, and regulate cholesterol. Turmeric is additionally known as a powerful pain reliever that is beneficial for treating arthritis and joint pain. Initial studies suggest (even though without strong evidence) that it may also help fight against cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

Possible adverse effects:
Adding small amounts of turmeric to your food as a spice should not cause health problems. However, it is important to use caution when deciding whether turmeric is something you want to take in large amount. The same agents in turmeric that support digestive health can irritate when consumed in a large dose. People who take blood-thinning drugs should avoid consuming Turmeric is a huge quantity.
There are some stories about Turmeric stimulating contractions, so pregnant women should avoid taking turmeric supplements.

Turmeric can be added to many recipes, making it easy to include in your regular diet. It is a highly versatile spice that can be mixed to meals in a range of ways, including spice mixtures (curry or barbecue rub), marinades, homemade salad dressing, juices, smoothies, teas and tonics, dips and spreads, smoothies. It is possible to find Turmeric as a supplement in powder-containing capsules, fluids, extracts, and tinctures. Consider a slow start as the spice was found highly-flavor for many.


Ginseng


Ginseng refers to different varieties of a short, slow-growing plant with fleshy roots of the Panax species. Although it remains true that researches are still ongoing to investigate and provide evidence of its full potentials, Ginseng is one of the most popular herbal medicines in the world, and it’s been used in Asia and North American for centuries.

It contains in high concentration carbohydrates, essential amino acids, minerals ( manganese, copper, iron, potassium, aluminum, calcium, phosphorus, zinc) vitamins (Group B Vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E), and ginsenosides its unique and beneficial compounds.

Alleged health benefits:
Ginseng is widely used as a tonic. It is believed to boost and strengthen the immune system, restore and enhance well being and improve stamina.
Ginseng is also known to have beneficial anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Particularly, fermented red ginseng could aid increase insulin production, lower blood sugar levels in cells and provide antioxidant protection.
It assists improve mental functions like memory, behavior, and mood, and it is also used to reduce stress.
Some research suggests that ginseng may be useful for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men. It has been used to better the symptoms of erectile dysfunction and enhance blood flow in penile muscles. In fact, it was used in ancient time for the treatment of infertility.
Other claimed health benefits are weight loss assistance, flu prevention, and lung function improvement.

Possible adverse effects:
Ginseng can drive somebody to become over-excited. The most common side effects are sleeping troubles(insomnia). Less commonly, people might experience menstrual problems, breast pain, increased heart rate, high or low blood pressure, headache, loss of appetite, diarrhea, itching, rash, dizziness, mood changes, vaginal bleeding. Ginseng is not recommended for pregnant women and children.

Ginseng is available in dried, powdered, tea, capsule and tablet forms. It is safe to take the herb in small doses, so go ahead, try it for yourself, and see if you can notice some tangible beneficial effects.


Herbal remedies – Freedom of use, caution in the use


It is undeniable that herbal remedies are an important part of a healthy, nutrient-rich diet. However, it is important to remember that just like prescription drugs, plants can cause adverse side effects when used incorrectly. Always consult a medical professional before taking herbal remedies as a treatment.

While it is always good to check with a medical professional prior to starting any type of regular treatment, many of these
herbs and spices may offer a safer alternative to traditional medications. This is because natural ingredients tend to have fewer types and intensity of side effects. However, each person will respond differently, so it is best to evaluate your reaction to each herb as it is introduced.

  1. I have a friend who was so impressed with how Tumeric helped his joint pains and arthritis, he now solely promotes Tumeric online. He’s created a business informing people how Tumeric has helped his causes besides showing various ways of adding the powdered form into food, as you suggest – a BBQ rub, marinades and salad dressings etc.
    I think all these plant roots are the best healing remedies because they’re naturally grown and like everything we consume, they should be eaten in moderation – little & often.

    This is great information. I love ginger and honey hot tea! I had no idea ginger was so beneficial. This is good to know.
    Also, I take Turmeric Plus everyday. It has helped me with bloating, constipation, aches and pains in my joints.
